Oh I love this. Such a clever idea. I have administrated a lot of exams that had rest breaks and other provisions. It is madness trying to keep up with all the timings. How can we help. What are three things that we can need assist with?
Hi Tara,
This is a great idea and definitely resonate with this need.
At my school the breaks are set at a specific time, how with students communicate that they would like their break? Is there a button they press ect.
Tara this is such a great idea !
Maybe when it is time for a student to go on break a small light could turn on? and then when their break is over the light turns off?
@ Bree Brown
Yes! The student device will either have a physical button that they press to alert the teacher they would like to take their break or a button I will integrate into the digital screen

Thank you so much for the idea!! I will have a look into what that would involve. How do you think that would help either you as a student or teacher when taking/logging the rest breaks?

At uni we completed a unit on Arduino circuits, so you could potentially explore creating a simple circuit where a student can discreetly activate a light when they need to take a break. You could also research timed touch lamps that automatically switch off once the break has ended/colour change. You could probably put the light in side a 3d printed button that is discrete for only the person sitting at the desk to see. - I think this would help both students and teachers as currently, teachers often have to verbally notify students about their breaks, which can create noise, interrupt other students during exams and sometimes make students with provisions feel embarrassed or singled out. Also teachers can quickly see which students are currently on a break without having to talk!!
